Storyboard Competition

ANNOUNCING: Second Annual Storyboard Competition

What is the Storyboard Competition?

All organizations that present a storyboard during the Storyboard Gallery Session on Monday, July 12, 2010 from 3:00pm to 4:30pm are automatically entered in the competition. The storyboards are judged on four criteria:

  1. Creativity in presenting your change project/innovation story.
  2. Clearly showing outcomes of the change using both pre-change and post-change data.
  3. Overall use of process improvement methods and tools.
  4. Visual creativity of the display board. (30”x40” foam core board)

Who chooses the winners?

There are two award categories: Judges’ Choice and the Attendees’ Choice, and three winners will be chosen from each category. The judges are comprised of individuals experienced in process improvement. The Attendees Choice will be awarded to the three storyboards which receive the most votes from all attendees.

What do the winners receive?

Winners of Judges’ Choice and Attendees’ Choice awards will receive a ribbon for their storyboard, and will have their organization’s name announced as a winner during the event.

How do I create a storyboard?

Organizations may be as creative as they wish. The only restrictions are:

  1. The materials from each storyboard must fit on ONE 30 x 40 inch piece of foam core.
  2. The storyboard should highlight a successful change project or innovation the organization has undertaken, and the results of this change or innovation.
  3. Organizations should keep in mind the four judging criteria (above.)
  4. The organization’s name must be prominently displayed.

Some key details to keep in mind:

  • Use large font and clear data on your storyboard
  • Using PowerPoint or a Word program is helpful in organizing the content.
  • Communicate key points
  • Be creative and colorful!
  • Examples of storyboards are available here: Storyboards

  • Provided materials: One piece of foam core, tape, scissors, tacks, glue, and colored paper
  • Creation: Organizations can put together their storyboards on Sunday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (Stop by the SAAS/NIATx conference registration desk for instructions. (The registration desk is located outside the Junior Ballroom on level-3 in the Duke Energy Convention Center.)
